Icon Tutorial for PS 7
Another icon tutorial. This one is fairly simple, really. If I can do it, anyone can. We'll be making this:
![]() |
First, we start with our image. I took the official render of Dante from Devil May Cry 3, and cropped it down to 39x40 px, and pasted it onto a 100x100 px white background. It's probably best to work with an image with similar lighting for this tutorial. :D |
![]() |
Then, I duplicated the layer three times, and positioned them where I wanted them, in this case a line across the white background. Then, I merged the three pictures of Dante (click on the top image layer and hit Shift + E twice). And I got this. |
![]() |
Then, I duplicated the layer with the multiple Dantes, desaturated it, and set it to soft light. |
![]() |
Duplicated the desaturated soft light layer. Here, depending on how dark your image is, you may wish to play around with the opacity a bit, so it doesn't get too light or too dark. |
![]() |
Adding a new layer on top of it all, I used my paintbucket tool and floodfilled the area with #011637, brought the opacity down to 40%, and then set the layer to exclusion. I love that magical blue exclusion layer. :3 |
![]() |
And, now, you should have something like this. |
![]() |
Then I added this gradient of mine, spanning from #E7E6E4 to #BACACF, so that only a small bit of the blue showed, and set the layer to multiply. |
![]() |
And now you should have something like this. :3 |
![]() |
Then, I used a font called Saraband Initials, set at 18 pt in #810B1B, with a setting of sharp, and typed a big ol' D. |
![]() |
And, in 6 pt, Times New Roman, with a kerning of 600, I typed out A N T E, and made my 'Dante'. Same color as the D, obviously. |
![]() |
And, last but not least, I used Times New Roman, 1 pt, with a kerning of 600 set at sharp, to make some tiny text, just for the hey of it. And that's it, you're totally done. Simple as pie, and it looks pretty neat. |
